Yellow is an emotional colour, it is the third of the subtractive primary (hue) colours, along with blue and red, and the third after orange and red to have warm attributes

It taps into our emotional centre and also like blue is presses our intellectual buttons as well. It is well known as a great colour to study with, painting an office or study yellow can have a strong impact on performance. However it also taps into our self-esteem, an incredibly emotive psychological area, and can suppress or expand our feelings of self worth dependant on tone

It has a many positive attributes and naturally several negative attributes and as with other colours these depend on tone, tint and surrounding colours. Each attribute relates to how we feel when we are in the presence of the colour as well as what it says about our own personalities when orange is our favourite or least favourite colour.

If yellow is your favourite colour you are likely to have a sunny disposition, an ability to concentrate easily, feel strong in yourself, have high self esteem with out seeming arrogant and have a generally optimistic, harmonious outlook on life. If you hate yellow you may find that you have difficulties communicating or concentrating for any period of time, you may have difficulties accepting your own self worth and often feel depressed or anxious for no apparent reason.

When we don't like a colour one of the best things to do is acknowledge what negative aspects or traits relate to us and try to embrace the colour's positive traits through meditation, wearing the colour, or surrounding ourselves with that colour in a personal space (not necessarily by going as far as decorating, but with a throw or piece of material). Tune into the colour and try to learn the lessons it is sharing with us.

In the house yellow is a strong colour for studies or offices as it encourages concentration and mental discipline. It is the perfect colour for any room in which you want to feel mentally uplifted and to encourage conversation, a kitchen is a good example where the use of yellow will encourage everyone in the family to come in and chat. Bright yellow is also a good colour for a young child's room as it encourages mental development, communication and well being.

Yellow is related to the solar plexus charka, located below the ribs and is associated with self worth

In tarot, the major arcana cards associated with yellow are The Fool, Magician and Strength, the minor arcana suit Pentacles are also associated with yellow.

The element Earth is represented by yellow among other colours, and its direction is North (in Western tradition) or Centre (Eastern Tradition).
