One is the start of everything, the seed that is planted, the new beginning. The essence of this number is independence, individuality, oneness with life and all things around you.

A one personality has raw undivided energy, has initiative, opportunity for growth and therefore study and learning, is optimistic, independent, potential for self-development and will continue to improve themselves throughout their lives.

Esoterically speaking one is considered the moment of conception, the planted seed or fertilised egg and represents the potential, raw dynamic power of life.

It is the number of opportunities, study, progress and creativity and corresponds to the colour red, which is has creative, energising and expansive properties.

In numerology it represents leadership and all the qualities that are associated with that including initiative, originality, determination, direction, adventure.

In the tarot, the number one corresponds with the Aces in the Minor Arcana and offers the best each suit has to offer and are the emanation of the suit from which each subsequent card develops.

As one has potential and power, so to the aces have great force and offer up promise, hope and progress that will happen suddenly and quickly, and therefore easily missed.

A new opportunity, a seed to be planted, nurtured and grown, will arise, something that has to be actively taken and applied rather something that will happen anyway.

Within the Major Arcana, one relates to the Magician, Wheel of Fortune and The Sun. the Magician is the primary with the Wheel of Fortune relating to the number 10, and then reducing to one, and The Sun reducing from 19 to ten and then to one. All three therefore have elements in common, but also points of differentiation, with the Wheel of Fortune and The Sun taking the elements of one and expanding on them, evolving them further.

In the home, a one house is one in which solitude is welcome, independence and originality come to the fore and new beginnings are given the opportunity to be created.

The one essence can also lead to isolation however, or a tendency to selfishness and too much single mindedness.
