The phases of the moon all have the most significant effect on spellcasting and it is therefore very important to pay attention to where the moon is when you plan to cast your spell or make your wish.
There are plenty of sites out there that show you the exact phase of the moon on any given date. This section is an introduction to what each phase means and how it impacts on your spellcasting.
The waxing moon (increasing)
The moon waxes from when the crescent moon first appears in the sky to the point at which it becomes full. The closer you cast your spell to the full moon the more intense the energies. Use the waxing moon for new beginnings, improving health or wealth, attracting good luck, finding a new job and generally all things that involve increase and new plans.
The full moon
Officially the moon is only full at the second it rises, but as this is pretty difficult to pinpoint for the purposes of spellcasting the full moon is taking from its moon rise to moon set on the night of the full moon. This is the most powerful energy, and many of us may experience its power in our moods and behaviour on that day. Use the full moon to improve your power, boost immediate needs, changing direction, fulfilling ambitions, protection and anything that needs a real charge.
The waning moon (decreasing)
The waning moon decreases from full to new, and goes through a period of when it is not visible in the sky before it rises anew. Strictly speaking you should not cast a spell during the dark side of the moon. However whilst it is waning it is the ideal time for any banishing spells you wish to cast, for instance removing pain, removing obstacles to happiness, letting go of addiction or unhappiness.
So not only does the moon affect the tides, determine monthly cycles, have cleansing power and affect our mood, but it can greatly enhance our spellcasting power.
To test it's ability to help energise a spell or wish, stand out in the moonlight on a night when the moon is waxing, and make a simple wish, believe in it with all your heart and follow the basic rules. Don't use any ingredients, tools or ritual, just keep it simple, and feel the power for yourself.
