Casting runes, reading the tarot, taking a long hard look at your palm or a deep look into a crystal ball are all age old methods of attaining wisdom from within.

Listening to our own inner psyches can be the best messengers of all when it comes to trying to understand what we are about to experience, or having someone else help you tap into that inner knowledge.

Divination is not a statistically accurate mathematical method, but something that taps into the same instinctive processes that alert you to a pending phone call from your mother or daughter, or that someone close to you is feeling out of sorts. There is no way to “scientifically” prove these feelings, but we know they exist. The same is true of divination, done well and with respect to the potential wisdom it can unleash, the different forms of divination have helped provide inspiration for aeons.

Carl Jung talked about the “two million year old man” contained within everyone, reaching this repository of wise counsel is exactly what divination can do for us all.

How does it work

Divination can take incredibly complex forms, such as I-ching, which gives our intuition the time and indeed the tools to work. Equally it can be unbelievably simple and as such letting the intuition work in that uber zone of immediate realisation, where the instinct kicks-in in seconds.

The different forms of divination work for different people therefore, some offering the form of ritual they need to enable them to “tap into” their subconscious, and other forms providing flashes of inspiration and snapshots of information.

Nothing occurs by chance according to Jung, so by that token then every method whether simple or complex is governed by synchronicity and as such that is how we end up with the right cards, or the symbols in the tea leafs. The laws of the universe ensuring that the information we need to see is provided in response to that need. So a combination then of instinctual understanding of the message and the energy around us responding to our needs and providing the message in the first place.

This section of innermoo has been written to offer you an introduction to additional forms of divination, if you find one of these systems of interest why not pop to the forum to discuss it in detail?
